Philanthropy has always been an important part of the fabric of TRIOSE. Giving back to the community is something we, as a company, and I, personally, feel passionately about — which is why we couldn’t be more excited to announce that our Give Five national charity of choice is Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a truly impressive charity dedicated to finding a cure for all pediatric cancers.
Through the national charity component of Give Five — our corporate social responsibility program that also encompasses local volunteerism, veteran support, environmental sustainability and ethical conduct — we pledge to match a portion of our clients’ collective savings generated from TRIOSE programs and donate those dollars back to ALSF. These donations will support childhood cancer research, as well as ALSF’s “Travel Fund” that helps families pay for travel expenses as they venture far from their homes for treatment. While we’re dedicated to making a difference in healthcare every day, our work with ALSF gives new meaning to our mission to “deliver healing."
What better way to kick off our partnership than with a check. Ira Tauber, TRIOSE’s President, and I had the honor of presenting Liz Scott, mom to Foundation creator Alexandra “Alex” Scott and Co-Executive Director of the Foundation, with an initial donation of $84,000.
Before I continue, I must say Liz and her husband Jay are absolutely remarkable. When their daughter Alexandra “Alex” Scott decided to hold a lemonade stand to help doctors find new treatments and ultimately a cure for all childhood cancers, including her own, they supported Alex’s mission every step of the way. After cancer took Alex’s life they continued Alex’s legacy of hope by starting the Foundation. Now what started as the vision of one little girl has been transformed into a national effort that has raised more than $100 million and funded over 475 research projects to make strides in putting an end to childhood cancer.
It’s an indescribable feeling to know that we are helping to directly improve the lives of children living with cancer and their families, and to move research forward that will one day, we hope, lead to a cure.
This is just the beginning. We’re gearing up to get employees across our company involved in events and initiatives to support this great organization. So if you see us running, walking or cycling, competing in “Apprentice”-style competitions or manning our own lemonade stands, know that we can all make a difference — even one cup at a time.
