Triose saves nine years of medical research

The situation

Emergencies are an everyday occurrence in healthcare. In logistics, solutions are specifically designed to avoid them. But sometimes you’re asked to rise to the occasion. That was the case with one of our clients in northeast Ohio, a leading non-profit academic medical center.

In early July 2016, the medical center was housing 550 patient samples, collected over a span of nine years from women with specific high-risk pregnancies, for an ongoing and long-term clinical study in cardiovascular disease. The freezer that stored these samples was on its last legs, which the staff knew. They gave it a month. The plan, of course, was to work with Triose to remove, pack, track, and ship these samples carefully to a new location downtown by the end of the month.

The fridge, however, had other plans.

In mid-July, it stopped working. Fortunately for the medical center, this particular freezer came equipped with an alarm that sounded when the temperature inside grew too warm. The alarm had never gone off in nine years, until that day. Suddenly, there was a logistics emergency.

The staff took immediate action, contacting their Triose Support Specialist who was already aware of this project. But instead of having weeks to plan the move, he only had 24 hours to coordinate and complete it. To make matters worse, the 2016 Republican National Convention was in town – and it was wreaking havoc on traffic.

The Triose solution

By working closely with the medical center, pulling together outside resources, and doing what many of our competitors can’t – tapping into our expertise and relationships with couriers — Triose made it happen. All 550 samples were removed, packaged, and delivered to their new location, safe and sound, all within five hours.

While it’s hard to place a dollar value on saving nine years of medical research, thanks to the collaborative effort and the team’s quick turnaround, we know how much getting this done and making this happen meant to our client. It not only enhanced a relationship that was already long-standing but also proved, once again, that “caring” isn’t just something we say at Triose.

We live it.

What our customers are saying

Triose is the best in the business. At the end of the day, we love the savings and their program has really improved our process flow.

Steve Patton

Director of Supply Chain at Lakeland Regional Medical Center

Triose was able to do everything it promised it would, and we couldn't be happier. They basically play the middle man for everything we do as far as shipping goes, and it's nice to have that in place at Baystate Health.

Todd Bailey

Manager of Warehousing and Transportation at Baystate Health

We're confident that with Triose's ongoing process improvements, our partnership will continue to make a positive difference in our supply chain processes.

Jessica Denney

Corporate Purchasing Manager at MSHA

Triose has been a positive experience for me, one of my first goals was to reduce freight costs. Triose helped with reaching out to suppliers to get them on board, we changed our process on shipping and it worked. With Triose's help, we did it!
